Draco Lucius Malfoy (b. 5 June 1980) was a British pure-blood wizard and the only son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy (née Black). Draco, the son of a Death Eater, was raised to strongly believe in the importance of blood purity. He looked down on half-bloods and Muggle-borns.

Draco attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1998. He was sorted into Slytherin House almost as soon as the Sorting Hat touched his head. During his years at Hogwarts, he befriended Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, and Pansy Parkinson, as well as other fellow Slytherins, but he quickly developed a rivalry with Harry Potter and his friends.

He was made a prefect of his house and was a member of the Inquisitorial Squad during his fifth year, at the end of which his father was imprisoned in Azkaban following the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Lord Voldemort charged Draco with making up for Lucius's failure, and he became a Death Eater at age sixteen but was quickly disillusioned with the lifestyle.

Draco could not complete his task of murdering Albus Dumbledore, who was later taken over by Severus Snape, and he only performed his other duties fearfully and reluctantly. In the Second Wizarding War, Draco saved both Weasley twins' lives and also stood up to Lord Voldemort for not joining him. Draco later gives Abraxas's scarf to Tom because Bellatrix pulled off Hermione's neck and left it in Malfoy Manor.

By 2017, Draco had married Astoria Greengrass and had one child, Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy.

Battle of Hogwarts

When the Death Eaters attacked the school, however, Draco stayed inside the castle to try to capture Harry Potter, probably to try to make up for all the other failings of his family. He, Crabbe, and Goyle caught up with Harry, Ron, Tom, and Hermione in the Room of Lost Things. In the ensuing confrontation, Crabbe wildly used magic he couldn’t control, setting Fiendfyre loose. Draco and Goyle managed to make it to temporary safety while Crabbe was killed. Harry, on a broomstick, swung back and saved Draco’s life just as the Fiendfyre was about to devour them.

After the Battle, when Voldemort was dead, the Malfoy family sat in the Great Hall together, unsure if they were welcome to be there, but ignored by the rest of the people gathered. Narcissa had aided Harry Potter to be able to get into the castle to save her son, and now she, Draco, and Lucius looked at a new world dawning before them, a new world where they might not fit in.
