Lyall Lupin (fl. 1929–1981) was a half-blood wizard who was a world-renowned authority on Non-Human Spirituous Apparitions. During the prelude to the First Wizarding War, the British Ministry of Magic called on his expertise in Dark creatures to help contain the threat.
He eventually joined the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Lyall married Muggle Hope Howell and had one son, Remus John Lupin, who was bitten by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback in retaliation for a negative comment about lycanthropes that Lyall made.

Magical Powers and Skills
- History of Magic (Outstanding): He likes reading, what of it? Not the top of the class, but close to it, the subject was effectively taught to him by bedtime stories and various anecdotes about never crossing a goblin.
- Defence of the Dark Arts (Outstanding): It's always the quiet ones. Having the professor of the subject as Head of House does help in learning the subject, in addition to a healthy fear of werewolves.
- Charms (Outstanding): A gift in the subject of Charms, with an innate grasp of the subtle timing and nature of the subject.
- Transfiguration (Exceeds Expectations): Not particularly a strong point in his education, with a slow start, though having a teacher like Dumbledore has done wonders for his grasp of the subject.
- Potion (Exceed Expectations): Not part of the Slug Club, but can be trusted to create an acceptable, simple potion if left with a recipe.
- Herbology (Exceed Expectations): A love of the outdoors is always a bonus for studying this subject. Though quiet, when left to his own devices, he can be trusted to get his hands dirty.
- Care of Magical Creatures (Outstanding): Yet to start the subject, but has already read all the books and underlined the subject on his elective checklist.
Basic Need – A desire to fulfil his curiosity in subjects that interest him, namely, creatures like Boggarts.
Greatest Strength – A calculating mind, coupled with a desire to stand for what he knows is right.
Fatal Flaw – Unwilling to admit to mistakes, lest others think less of him.
